MBA Semester in San Francisco

Semester in San Francisco is designed to connect what students learn at Wharton with what is happening in the Bay Area in real time. A dedicated Regional Seminar anchors the experience, while courses in areas including venture capital, scaling, technology, and artificial intelligence complement opportunities to engage directly with the region’s companies, investors, entrepreneurs, and alumni.

The Bay Area as a Classroom

Each fall, a select cohort of second-year Wharton MBA students moves from Philadelphia to Wharton San Francisco for a semester of immersive academic, professional, and experiential learning in the Bay Area.

Unique to Wharton, the Semester in San Francisco (SSF) combines a customized MBA curriculum with direct access to one of the world’s most dynamic centers of entrepreneurship, technology, venture capital, and innovation. Students learn from Wharton faculty while engaging with companies, entrepreneurs, investors, alumni, and industry leaders throughout the region.

Learning extends well beyond the classroom. Through company visits, industry events, networking, recruiting, and opportunities for in-semester internships, students experience the Bay Area economy firsthand while building relationships and exploring new career and entrepreneurial opportunities.

Piloted at Wharton San Francisco in 2012 and established as a core offering of the Wharton MBA Program in 2015, Semester in San Francisco offers students the opportunity to spend an integral part of their Wharton MBA experience on the West Coast.
